When

1 to 2:30 pm

FDA has announced their Notice of Final Determination…

…Stating that Partially Hydrogenated Oils (PHOs) in processed food are no longer “generally recognized as safe” (GRAS) based on the findings of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) review of the scientific evidence and the expert panel recommendation that intake of trans fats from PHOs be as low as possible. In order to continue some uses of PHOs in food, a food additive petition must be submitted, reviewed, and approved by FDA.

PHOs have been used to improve flavors, increase shelf life and provide flavor stability of foods for over 70 years. Now manufacturers are no longer allowed to sell PHOs for use in food without prior FDA approval for use as a food additive. FDA has set a compliance period of three years. How is this going to affect YOU?

In this 90-minute webinar, we will review FDA’s final determination and explain its impact to your product formulations. GMA’s expert panel will also detail the latest industry responses to the determination, including GMA’s own food additive petition reaffirming the safe use and use levels of PHOs.

After this session, you’ll be able to:

• Recommend next steps for your organization

• Determine the level of impact this final determination will have on your organization

• Better target preparation efforts within your organization.
