Foods and Dietary Supplements

  • Advise clients on the interpretation of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011 and its implementing regulations, including those pertaining to current good manufacturing practices (GMPs) and preventive controls for human and animal food, produce safety, foreign supplier verification program requirements, and sanitary transportation.
  • Assist in the filing of food addtitive petitions, GRAS notifications, and new dietary ingredient notifications
  • Respond to FDA inspections
  • Help assess incidents of non-compliance and proposed corrective actions
  • Counsel clients on U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulatory issues, including requirements for import of animal products, ingredients used in meat, poultry, and egg products and methods for processing and handling these products
  • Advise clients on compliance with organic regulations
  • Develop strategies for addressing manufacturing problems, including issues related to contamination, bacteria, pesticides, and allergens

Animal Drugs and Feed

  • Counsel clients regarding Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) and Official Definitions for use of new ingredients in animal feed and pet foods
  • Assist with generally recognized as safe (GRAS) determinations for animal feed ingredients
  • Provide counsel regarding import of animal products and assist clients in response to FDA import detentions

Labeling, Advertising, and Promotion

  • Counsel on labeling, advertising, and promotion for human and animal foods, including: health, nutrient content, and structure/function claims, country of origin labeling, natural claims, and other marketing claims
